This is the tornado warning for today! January is usually the worst month for storms. We almost always see storms in late January. The most severe storm damage happens in January. Everyone thinks it's not going to happen to them until it happens to them. It is better to be safe than sorry. We are doing free storm safety assessments, call Brown's Tree Care at 479-273-0202.

RIP and condolences to the family. Chipper accidents don't just happen. This is what happens when you put inexperienced people on the job. You literally have to throw yourself into the Chipper for this to happen. Most of the workers here at Brown's have been doing this for 10-20 years. Most homeowners do not realize that if a tree care worker gets hurt, they are the ones held liable. Make sure whatever tree service you pick has a specialized policy for tree trimming. Accidents can easily cost a homeowner 100K to 1M.

Preparing Your Trees for Fall: A September Checklist from Brown's Tree Care

As the summer heat begins to fade and we welcome the cooler breezes of September, it's the perfect time to start thinking about preparing your yard for fall. Just as you switch out your wardrobe, your trees need a little seasonal attention, too. The care they receive now is crucial for their health and safety through the colder months and will ensure they thrive come springtime.

At Brown's Tree Care, we believe in a proactive approach to tree health. Here’s a simple checklist to help you get your trees fall-ready.

           1. Inspect for Stress and Disease

September is a great time to do a quick health check on your trees. Look for signs of stress or disease that may have developed over the hot Arkansas summer. This could include:

            Discolored or wilting leaves

Unusual spots or growths on the bark

Branches that appear bare or are shedding leaves earlier than others

Signs of pest infestation, like small holes in the trunk or sawdust at the base

Catching these issues early can prevent them from becoming serious problems later. If you spot anything concerning, it’s best to have a professional take a look.

           2. Prune for Health and Safety

Fall is an excellent season for tree pruning. Removing dead, dying, or weak branches now helps improve the tree's overall health and prepares it for winter. These compromised limbs are often the first to break during a storm, posing a risk to your home and property.

Proper pruning also improves air circulation, which can help prevent disease. Our team at Brown's Tree Care uses the correct techniques to ensure your trees are pruned safely and effectively, promoting strong, healthy growth for years to come.

           3. Protect with Mulch

Applying a fresh layer of mulch is one of the easiest and most beneficial things you can do for your trees this month. A good mulch layer helps retain soil moisture, insulates roots from temperature fluctuations, and suppresses weeds that compete for nutrients.

A word of caution: make sure to apply mulch correctly. It should be spread in a donut shape around the base of the tree, keeping it a few inches away from the trunk itself. This prevents moisture from building up against the bark, which can lead to rot.

A Silent Struggle: How August Heat Affects Your Trees

August in Arkansas often brings relentless heat, and while we're all feeling the effects, there's a silent struggle happening right above our heads. The intense, prolonged heat we're experiencing is particularly bad for the health of our trees, and it's important to understand why.

           The Science Behind the Stress

Trees, much like people, need water to survive. During hot and dry periods, a tree's primary focus is on

           conserving water

. They do this by closing the stomata—tiny pores on their leaves—which limits the amount of water they lose to the atmosphere. However, this also means they can't take in carbon dioxide, which is essential for photosynthesis. The tree essentially goes into survival mode, and its growth slows or stops completely.

What to Look For: Signs of Heat Stress

When a tree is struggling with heat and drought, it will show a few key signs. Being able to spot these early can make a big difference:

            Wilting and drooping leaves:

This is the most common sign. The leaves may look limp and hang downward.

            Premature leaf yellowing or browning:

In an effort to conserve water, a tree may begin to shed leaves that are no longer necessary, causing them to turn yellow or brown and fall off earlier than usual.

            Curling leaves:

The edges of the leaves may curl inward, another tactic to reduce the surface area exposed to the sun and conserve moisture.

            Pests and disease:

A stressed tree is a weak tree. When a tree's defenses are down, it becomes more susceptible to opportunistic pests and diseases that it would normally be able to fend off.

           How You Can Help

While we can't control the weather, there are things you can do to help your trees get through this difficult time:

            Water deeply and infrequently:

Instead of short, daily waterings, aim for a long, slow soak every 7 to 10 days. This encourages deeper root growth, making the tree more resilient to future drought.

            Mulch is your friend:

A 2-4 inch layer of mulch around the base of the tree (but not touching the trunk) helps the soil retain moisture, keeps the roots cool, and reduces competition from weeds.

            Avoid pruning:

Pruning during periods of heat stress can add to a tree's stress. It's best to wait until cooler weather to do any major trimming.

If you're concerned about the health of your trees or notice any of the signs of heat stress, it's a good idea to consult a professional. At Brown's Tree Care, we're here to help you understand your trees' needs and develop a plan to keep them healthy for years to come. Boost Your Property Value by Investing in Professional Tree Care

Are you looking for ways to enhance your home's curb appeal and potentially increase its market value? While many improvements come to mind, one often overlooked investment is professional tree care. At Brown's Tree Care, we've seen firsthand how well-maintained trees transform properties, and numerous studies back up their significant financial impact.

Did you know that investing in proper tree work can lead to a substantial increase in your property's value?

While a precise percentage can vary, real estate professionals and landscape economists agree that healthy, strategically placed, and expertly maintained trees can add thousands to tens of thousands of dollars to your home's worth.

Here's why proper tree work is a smart investment for your property:

            Enhanced Curb Appeal:

This is perhaps the most immediate and obvious benefit. Beautifully shaped, healthy trees create an inviting and attractive first impression. They provide natural beauty, vibrant color, and a sense of maturity to your landscape, instantly making your home stand out. A well-designed tree canopy can make a property feel more established and luxurious.

            Improved Energy Efficiency:

Strategically placed deciduous trees can provide significant shade in the summer, reducing your cooling costs by blocking direct sunlight. In the winter, once their leaves have fallen, they allow sunlight to warm your home, contributing to lower heating bills. This energy efficiency is a major selling point for eco-conscious buyers.

            Increased Privacy and Sound Buffering:

A well-placed line of trees or a dense canopy can offer natural privacy from neighbors and street traffic. They also act as natural sound barriers, reducing noise pollution and creating a more tranquil outdoor living space – a highly desirable feature for potential buyers.

Reduced Risk of Damage and Liability:

Overgrown, diseased, or dead trees can pose serious hazards. Falling branches can damage your home, vehicles, or even injure individuals, leading to costly repairs and potential liability issues. Professional tree trimming and removal eliminate these risks, demonstrating responsible homeownership and protecting your investment.

            Support for Healthy Ecosystems:

Beyond the financial benefits, well-maintained trees contribute to a healthier environment. They improve air quality, provide habitat for local wildlife, and help manage stormwater runoff. For buyers who value sustainability, a property with a thriving tree population is a significant advantage.

            Creation of Usable Outdoor Spaces:

Strategic pruning can open up areas for outdoor living spaces, such as patios or gardens, that were previously shaded or cluttered. This maximizes your property's usable footprint and enhances its appeal to those looking for functional and beautiful outdoor areas.

Northwest Arkansas has faced severe weather over the past two months, with tornadoes and large hail causing significant damage throughout the region. Homes and businesses in cities like Rogers, Springdale, and Fayetteville have experienced downed trees, roof damage, and extended power outages. As the community works to recover, experts emphasize that proper tree maintenance can help prevent much of the storm-related damage seen this season.

The attached article is why you should always pick a company in-town to get a tree off your house. Oh, and don't just let anyone do your work without a contract. That should be your first sign. During the storms this past year, the out of towners were charging 50K a day per home. We were on the lower end of the spectrum, which is why we got so many insurance companies referring jobs to our customers. There are two sides to the story, and we know people we anxious to remove trees from homes.

: The weather conditions this week are ideal for an ice storm. Ice storms happen between the range of 32 and 38 degrees and with precipitation. Don't forget that over the last two decades, we've seen the most damaging ice storms in January and February! Just 1/4 of an inch of ice is all that it takes to bring the tree crashing down! Be proactive and call us for a free safety assessment for your house and loved ones.

There were many close calls. It was horrible. But the common denominator was that the damage could have been avoided! Everyone thinks they won't be the ones impacted, until they are! As the saying goes, "Safety isn't expensive, its priceless." We are here to give an honest assessment, at no charge.

, we believe in the importance of regular pruning for maintaining healthy, pest-free trees. Here's how pruning can benefit your trees:

Improved air circulation: Pruning helps to open up the canopy of a tree, allowing for better air circulation. This can help to dry out wet leaves and branches, which can be breeding grounds for pests and diseases.

Removing weak or diseased branches: Pruning away branches that are weak, damaged, or diseased can eliminate potential hiding spots for pests and prevent the spread of infections.

Reducing hiding places: Pruning can also remove dense, tangled growth that can provide hiding places for pests, such as aphids, scale insects, and spider mites.

Increasing sunlight exposure: By opening up the canopy, pruning can increase sunlight exposure to the interior of the tree. This can help to discourage pests that prefer shaded conditions.

Promoting healthy growth: Regular pruning can promote healthy, vigorous growth, which can make trees more resistant to pests and diseases.

The area just got hit with storms this weekend yet again! So...the new scam the out-of-town tree companies are doing during the storm is this: they have one company come in and bid your emergency job at 80K. Then they have another company come in and bid at 50. Both tree companies look to be different, when in reality, its two companies working together. You think you are getting a good deal. You saved 30K (or so you think)! They are making you think you saved money, but in reality, they are splitting their ill-gotten profits. They are in cahoots. Always pick a company that is local, the out-of-towners are only here to get rich.

The roar of the tornado may have faded, but the potential dangers lurking in your yard are far from over. Damaged trees, weakened branches, and uprooted giants pose serious threats to your property and loved ones.

At Brown’s Tree Care, we understand the urgency of the situation. While the immediate crisis has passed, the aftermath requires careful attention. Trees, once steadfast guardians, can now become hazardous liabilities.

           What to Look For:

Damaged Branches: Even seemingly minor damage can weaken a branch, making it susceptible to falling.

Leaning Trees: Trees tilting at an unusual angle are at risk of toppling.

Cracked or Split Trunks: These are signs of severe structural damage.

Root Exposure: Visible roots can indicate instability.

Preventative Measures: Don't wait for disaster to strike. Take proactive steps to protect your property:

Professional Assessment: Let our experienced arborists inspect your trees for hidden damage.

Pruning: Remove dead, dying, or diseased branches to reduce the risk of breakage.

Bracing and Cabling: Support weak branches or trees with cables or braces.

Removal: If a tree is severely damaged and poses a significant threat, removal may be necessary.

So much damage everywhere. Be careful with out-of-town companies. Summer is peak time for tree companies. Do you think they drove 1,000 miles away to make regular profits? We've seen out of town companies charging $25,000 on jobs that shouldn't be any more than 2,500. We just talked to an out-of-town company that is charging 8,000 an hour! I can't see how anyone could charge 800 an hour and look at themselves in the mirror. Yes, equipment is expensive to maintain and good help is hard to keep, but still. Price gouging is a thing in a State of Emergency! We have enough work, this is not us trying to get more. We just hate to see people pay someone 50,000+ for eight hours of labor. That's insane!

Unlock Your Home's Hidden Potential: The Power of Healthy Trees

           Imagine this

: you put your house on the market, and potential buyers are instantly drawn in by the lush, vibrant trees that frame your property. Not only does it create a stunning first impression, but it could also add up to 20% to your home's value!

That's right, healthy, well-maintained trees are a hidden asset that can significantly boost your curb appeal and justify a higher asking price. Here's why:

            Enhanced Beauty

: Mature trees add a touch of magic to your property, creating a sense of peace, privacy, and natural beauty that sets your home apart.

            Improved Energy Efficiency

: Strategically placed trees can provide shade, lowering your cooling costs in the summer and making your home more comfortable year-round.

            Environmental Benefits

: Trees are nature's superheroes! They absorb rainwater, reduce noise pollution, and even improve air quality for you and your neighbors.

Time to Bid Farewell? Signs Your Tree May Need Removal

Are your trees showing signs of distress? At Brown's Tree Care, we understand the importance of recognizing when it's time to say goodbye to a tree for the safety and beauty of your property. Here's a helpful guide to identify the signs indicating your tree may need removal:

           1. Dead or Dying Limbs

Look out for dead branches or limbs lacking leaves or showing signs of decay.

Dead limbs pose a significant risk during storms and should be addressed promptly.

           2. Leaning Tree

Excessive leaning may indicate root damage or soil instability.

Leaning trees can pose a danger of falling, potentially causing property damage or injury.

           3. Pest Infestation

Keep an eye out for signs of pest infestation such as holes in the trunk, sawdust-like material, or wilting leaves.

Pest-infested trees can suffer irreversible damage and may require removal to prevent further spread.

           4. Disease

Watch for symptoms of disease such as discoloration, unusual growths, or oozing sap.

Diseased trees can spread illness to neighboring trees and should be addressed promptly.

           5. Cracks or Splits

Visible cracks or splits weaken the tree's structure and increase the risk of falling.

Addressing structural issues promptly can prevent accidents and property damage.

           6. Overcrowding

Trees planted too closely together compete for resources and may struggle to thrive.

Removing overcrowded trees can improve the health and aesthetics of your landscape.

           7. Root Damage

Construction or soil disturbances can damage a tree's root system, leading to decline.

Signs of root damage include sparse foliage, premature leaf drop, and exposed roots.

           8. Poor Tree Health

Trees exhibiting overall poor health, including stunted growth and sparse foliage, may benefit from removal.

Removing unhealthy trees can prevent disease spread and enhance the beauty of your landscape.

Winter Pruning: The Best Time to Trim Your Trees

As the temperatures drop and leaves fall, many homeowners put away their gardening tools and prepare for hibernation. However, there is one important task that should not be forgotten: winter tree trimming. While it may seem counterintuitive to trim trees when they are dormant, there are actually several benefits to doing so. Here are just a few of the reasons why winter is the best time to trim your trees:

           1. Reduced Risk of Winter Damage

Dead, diseased, or damaged branches are more likely to break off during winter storms. By removing these branches in the fall or early winter, you can help to prevent damage to your home, property, and yourself.

           2. Reduced Risk of Disease and Pests

When trees are dormant, they are less susceptible to diseases and pests. This is because the sap is not flowing, making it more difficult for pathogens to enter the tree. Additionally, many insects are dormant during the winter, so they are less likely to be attracted to your trees.

           3. Improved Wound Healing

Trees are able to heal from pruning wounds more quickly during the winter months. This is because they are not actively growing, so they can focus their energy on healing. As a result, winter pruning will help your trees recover more quickly and be less susceptible to disease.

           4. Better Visibility of Tree Structure

When trees are bare, it is easier to see their structure and identify any potential problems. This makes it easier to remove dead, diseased, or damaged branches, which will help to improve the overall health and appearance of your trees.

           5. Enhanced Airflow and Sunlight Penetration

Pruning your trees in the winter will help to increase airflow and sunlight penetration to the interior of the canopy. This will promote new growth and make your trees more resistant to pests and diseases.

           6. Reduced Stress on Trees

Pruning trees during the growing season can stress them out, making them more susceptible to disease and pests. Winter pruning is less stressful on trees, as they are not actively growing.

           7. More Efficient Use of Resources

When you prune trees in the winter, you are not wasting their energy resources. The energy that would have been used to grow leaves and branches can be stored and used for new growth in the spring.

Winter pruning is an important part of tree care. By hiring Brown's Tree Care to trim your trees while they are dormant, you can help them to grow healthy and strong for years to come.

RIP. Customers don't realize how inherently dangerous the tree care business is. It doesn't look like there was insurance in place, so the homeowner will lose their house and assets. The bar is low if someone gets hurt or killed on your property. Unless there are drugs or alcohol in their system, you have to pay. Always ask for proof of workmen's comp when getting bids. Don't risk it! A large retail corporation in NWA shared the results of a workmen's compensation audit they performed. Over 90% of tree companies in the area have been found to have invalid workmen's compensation policies. It's an expense they aren't willing to pay. They'll lie to your face and say they have it, but if you ask for the certificate, you'll never see them again. There is usually a reason for a lowball bid.

We get calls all the time, where trees are dying after new construction. People want us to save them, but 95% of the time, the trees' health was damaged BEFORE the house was built. Most trees die within four years of construction, for the below reasons. And it can all be avoided! Read below.

To ensure your trees remain healthy and vibrant during construction, it's crucial to understand the potential risks and take proactive measures. In this blog post, our tree service experts will explain how new construction can damage trees and offer valuable tips to protect them.

Understanding the Threats to Your Trees:

Soil Compaction: Heavy machinery, construction materials, and vehicles can lead to soil compaction around the tree's root zone. Compacted soil reduces oxygen and water penetration, depriving the tree of essential nutrients.

Root Damage: Construction activities can cause physical damage to a tree's roots, disrupting their ability to absorb water and nutrients. This damage can be irreversible and lead to long-term tree decline. All it takes sometimes is one bulldozer driven over the roots, and its a death sentence!

Grade Changes: Altering the grade or elevating the ground level around a tree can expose its roots, making them vulnerable to injury, soil erosion, and even fungal diseases.

Excavation and Trenching: Digging trenches or excavating near trees can sever their roots, affecting stability and overall health.

           Tips for Protecting Your Trees:

Establish a Protected Zone: Designate a protected zone around the base of the tree where no construction activities should take place. This zone should extend beyond the tree's canopy to safeguard its root system.

Install Fencing: Install sturdy fencing or barriers around the protected zone to prevent heavy equipment, vehicles, and construction materials from encroaching on the tree's space.

Mulch and Maintain Moisture: Apply mulch around the base of the tree to retain soil moisture and regulate temperature. Regularly water the tree during dry periods to ensure it receives adequate hydration.

Prune as Needed: Pruning can help reduce stress on the tree by removing damaged or dead branches. Call Brown's if you need assistance with this.

Monitor for Signs of Stress: Keep a close eye on your trees throughout the construction process. Look for signs of stress, such as wilting leaves, yellowing foliage, or unusual fungal growth. Report any issues to your arborist promptly.

Adjust Construction Plans: If possible, adjust construction plans to minimize the impact on trees. This might involve rerouting driveways, repositioning buildings, or modifying grading plans.

Post-Construction Care: After construction is complete, continue to monitor and care for your trees. Implement a regular maintenance schedule, including pruning, mulching, and fertilizing as needed.

By following these tips, you can help ensure that your trees not only survive but thrive during new construction projects. Remember, healthy trees not only add beauty and value to your property but also contribute to a greener, more sustainable environment for everyone to enjoy.

60 years ago, when Mr. Brown started the company, he always stressed giving the best diagnosis possible. He regularly passed on thousands of dollars, because it was the wrong diagnosis. Customers would be convinced that since a company said the tree was going to die, that they were telling the truth. Too many companies out there will charge $3,000+, without trying to correctly diagnose the problem. Many times, the tree can be saved for 1/10 the price.

Mr. Brown retired almost two decades ago, but his spirit is still here. If you don't like the diagnosis you got on a tree, give us a call, the estimate is free. It is more important for us to keep our integrity than to line our pockets.

It is unbelievable how many times we run competitive bids and see people getting ripped off by "reputable companies." We've been voted #1 in the area three times, and we like to think its because we shoot straight with our bidding.

When you have problems with your car, you take it to a Mechanic you can trust to give you a fair and honest bid. It's the same for tree services. We give an honest bid, because its the right thing to do.The body content of your post goes here.

           Safeguard Against Hidden Hazards:

Spring tree inspections allow us to identify any hidden hazards that may pose a risk to your property or loved ones. During winter storms, trees may sustain damage or develop weak limbs that could potentially fall and cause harm. Our experienced arborists will conduct a comprehensive evaluation, examining the overall tree structure, checking for signs of decay or disease, and identifying any potential dangers.

           Early Detection of Tree Diseases:

Trees are susceptible to various diseases, and early detection is crucial for effective treatment. Spring inspections provide an opportunity to assess the health of your trees and identify any signs of disease or pest infestation. Our knowledgeable team will closely examine the foliage, bark, and branches, looking for indicators such as discoloration, unusual growth patterns, or pest activity. Detecting issues early on allows for prompt intervention and a higher chance of successful recovery.

           Promote Tree Health and Vigor:

Regular tree inspections are an essential component of proactive tree care. By assessing the overall health and vigor of your trees, we can recommend appropriate maintenance measures to enhance their well-being. Our arborists will evaluate the tree's nutrient requirements, pruning needs, and any other specific care guidelines. Implementing timely actions, such as fertilization, pruning, or mulching, will help your trees thrive, ensuring they can withstand environmental stressors and continue to beautify your landscape.

           Preserve Property Value:

The trees on your property contribute significantly to its aesthetic appeal and value. Neglecting tree inspections can lead to deteriorating tree health, compromised structural integrity, and decreased property value. By investing in spring tree inspections, you demonstrate your commitment to maintaining a safe and visually appealing environment. Whether you are a homeowner or a business owner, taking care of your trees now can have long-term benefits for the value and curb appeal of your property.

Spring has Sprung! Here are some tips on how to take care of your trees this spring.

Spring is here, and it's time to start thinking about the health and care of your trees. As a tree care company, we're here to help you ensure your trees stay healthy and strong all season long. Here are five tips to help you care for your trees this spring:

            Inspect for Damage

: The first step in caring for your trees is to inspect them for any damage that may have occurred over the winter months. Look for broken branches, cracks in the trunk, or any signs of disease or pests. If you spot any issues, contact us at 479-273-0202.

            Prune for Health

: Pruning is an essential part of tree care, and spring is an ideal time to remove dead, diseased, or damaged branches. Pruning can help promote healthy growth and prevent the spread of disease, and our certified arborists can provide expert pruning services tailored to your tree's specific needs.

            Mulch for Moisture

: Adding a layer of mulch around your trees can help retain moisture in the soil, regulate soil temperature, and suppress weeds. Be sure to use a natural, organic mulch and avoid piling it up against the trunk, which can lead to decay and pest problems.

            Water Wisely

: Trees need water to thrive, especially during the dry spring and summer months. However, it's important to water your trees wisely to avoid overwatering, which can lead to root rot and other issues. Our arborists can help you determine how much water your trees need and when to water them for optimal health.

            Evaluate Nutrient Needs

: Trees require a balance of nutrients to thrive, and this balance can be affected by a variety of factors, including soil composition, weather conditions, and tree species. If a tree is under-fertilized, it may suffer from nutrient deficiencies that can lead to stunted growth, poor health, and even death. Before applying fertilizer, our certified arborists can assess your trees' nutrient needs and determine if under-fertilization is a problem. If necessary, we can recommend a targeted fertilization program that delivers the right amount and type of nutrients your trees need to reach their full potential and avoid the negative consequences of under-fertilization.

We hope these tips will help you care for your trees and keep them healthy and strong all season long. If you have any questions or concerns about your trees, please don't hesitate to contact us at

           Webworms & Bag Worms

Everybody hates these worms, they are ugly and take away from the enjoyment of your home. There are many companies running around that will charge you $2,000 a tree to treat these, when in fact, it is usually too late in the season. We've seen companies charge people $40,000 to kill pests that can't be killed. In general, the best time to treat trees for these pests is during their active feeding period, while they are in their larval (infant) form, which typically occurs in the spring. If you wait until June, it's going to be too late! Adult worms of these kind are usually not killed by any pesticide, so beware any company telling you they can get rid of them.

FYI, at the end of the season, when Winter approaches, your tree may still need treatment, as the bugs lay eggs in the surrounding area.

If you are unsure about the best approach for treating your specific trees, contact us for a free estimate. We care about our reputation, we aren't going to charge anyone for a needless treatment. If the charge is necessary, it doesn't usually cost that much. Final note, if you see these worms, don't wait! If you don't spray immediately, you will most likely need to wait until Spring of next year to treat!

Stump Grinding & Removal

What are the Benefits of Getting Tree Stumps Removed?

There are several reasons why a homeowner should get stumps ground after tree work is done:

Aesthetics: Stumps can be unsightly and can detract from the appearance of a yard. Grinding them down removes the visible stump, leaving a smooth surface that can be easily covered with soil, grass or plants.

Safety: Stumps can be a tripping hazard, especially if they are not easily visible. Grinding them down removes this potential danger and makes the area safer for children and pets.

Prevent regrowth: If the stump is not removed, it can potentially lead to new growth from the roots or suckers growing from the stump itself. This can be an ongoing maintenance issue, which can be eliminated by stump grinding.

Free up space: Stumps can take up valuable space in your yard, which can limit your ability to plant new trees, shrubs, or other landscaping features.

Pest Control: Stumps left behind can attract insects, such as termites, which can lead to infestations and damage to nearby trees, bushes or even your home. By removing the stump, you can eliminate a potential attractant for pests.

Overall, stump grinding is an important step in tree removal, and it is recommended for safety, aesthetics, and property maintenance reasons.

Should I Wait Until Spring to Trim my Trees?

Trimming a tree in winter is often preferred to waiting until spring for a few reasons:

            Reduced Disease Transmission

: Trees are more susceptible to diseases and pests during the growing season, and pruning during this time can increase the risk of spreading diseases or pests. Pruning during the winter when the tree is dormant can reduce the risk of transmitting diseases or pests.

            Better Healing

: Trees that are pruned during the dormant season, when they are not actively growing, have an easier time healing the pruning wounds. When pruned during the growing season, the wounds take longer to heal, as the tree is focusing its energy on growth rather than healing.

            Increased Safety

: Pruning during the winter, when there are fewer leaves and the tree is more visible, can make it easier to identify and address any safety issues such as broken branches or those that are at risk of falling.

Overall, while there are some situations where pruning during the growing season may be necessary, winter is generally the best time to prune most trees. It's always important to consult with Brown's Tree Care the best time and method for pruning specific types of trees.

Is sealing your tree the right thing to do?

Sealing a tree used to be a common practice, but it's not good for your tree. Sealing a tree after it has been cut can potentially be harmful to the tree's health. When a tree is cut, the wound is exposed to the elements and can become infected by disease or pests. Sealing the wound with a sealant can prevent the tree from properly healing and closing the wound, which can lead to rot and decay. Additionally, sealants can trap moisture inside the wound, which can also promote decay. It is best to avoid sealing cuts on trees and instead allow the tree to heal naturally. If you are concerned about the health of a tree after it has been cut, give us a call.

Tree Topping

           Tree Topping

We get asked to top trees almost every day. However, this is no longer recommended practice by the governing bodies. Tree topping is bad because it is a severe form of pruning that removes the majority of the leaf-bearing branches and the upper portion of the tree. This can leave the tree with a dense growth of suckers at the base and few leaves at the top. This can cause the tree to become unstable, increase the risk of disease and insect infestation, and reduce the tree's ability to photosynthesize, which is necessary for growth and survival. Additionally, tree topping can cause the tree to grow multiple leaders, making the tree more susceptible to wind damage.

Be suspicious of anyone recommending to top your tree. You could get away with it in the Winter, but you still might have problems. And anyone saying they'll do it in Spring, Summer or Fall is trying to kill your tree for a profit. Full blown tree removals pay the best.
